What is this Open-source/Free-software thing?

While there are significant differences between Free Software and Open Source Software, the idea is that Free/Open Source Software is freely available along with its source code, enabling everybody to contribute to it, customize it and improve it. Mozilla is maintained and improved by hundreds of contributors, distributed freely on the Internet, and its licenses make it both Free Software and Open Source. Mozilla Europe needs contributions from volunteers to help distribute and improve products based on the Mozilla project. In light of the Free Software spirit, we plan to reinvest all the money made by the Association into its development, as the Association legal structure mandates it. Therefore, all the energy and money put into the project by volunteers will not benefit shareholders, as an association has no such persons, and does not allow income to be shared.

What are the relationships between Mozilla Europe and local communities?

Mozilla Europe was not created in order to replace the various local Mozilla communities. These communities do a wonderful job in terms of localization and documentation. To the contrary, Mozilla Europe wants to share the technical experience brought by its members with the communities in order to help them grow and improve the products themselves. Mozilla Europe was created in order to have a central Mozilla body in Europe in order to facilitate development and deployment throughout Europe by working with local communities.

This excellent question deserves a complete page to be answered. A first step would probably to become a Mozilla Europe member and propose to help on the members' mailing list. Depending on your skills, interest and free time, we will certainly find a way for you to contribute to the project.
